3.4 Equipment used

Selection of the equipment used was based on what could be carried to remote locations. The equipment required varied for different cliffs. For example, some eyries were accessed by abseiling and therefore the necessary abseiling equipment was required.

Abseiling to a ledge Below is a list of equipment used for this study:

  • spotting scope (Nikon 15-45X);
  • camera and lenses (75-300mm);
  • altimeter;
  • global positioning system (GPS);
  • National Parks & Wildlife Service radio;
  • notepad, pencil, plastic sealable bags, first aid equipment, lighter, topographical map;
  • 15 metres of rope;
  • abseiling equipment, including 60m rope lengths (it was found that 100m lengths of rope would be better due to the size of some of the cliffs).
