MINI LATHES & MILLING MACHINES

Major credit & debit cards accepted - American Express is preferred

Procon Technology can supply the following mini metal lathes, milling machines and accessories. Please see our prices below - contact us for quantity pricing. In Australia, call 1300304125 (toll free) now to buy!

NOTE: Small hobby lathes are not new, they have been European made and very expensive, or have welded frames and are flimsy! These have a FULL cast iron bed with frame and headstock assembly - just like an industrial lathe! According to the US website www.mini-lathe.com these lathes can, of course, be used to machine metals but also be used to precisely machine wood, plastic and other materials. These are great lathes for anyone into robotics, miniature steam engines or trains, model making and other engineering hobbies. Or for businesses wanting to occasionally machine small parts. All lathes and milling machines here are METRIC (some have optional imperial threadcutting and dials) and operate on 220-240VAC 50Hz or 60Hz and they now come with a 3 year warranty. Service agents are located in most Australian capital cities.

STOP PRESS: The C3 is our most popular lathe (although many now buy the C3A). If you add the cost of the horizontal slider and the thread cutting gears to the cost of the C1 lathe you'll find that you pay only $70 extra for the C3. The delivery and handling fee to most capital cities in Australia is $55 (Brisbane $77). NOTE, the C3 is now available for $990 (conditions apply).

The TL5000 or C3 model (7x14 or 14x7) is a larger (LxWxH = 760x230x300mm or 30x9x12") and more professional model to the C1 below. It includes many safety features - an emergency stop button, motor overload protection and a plastic chuck cover which must be down for the machine to operate. This prevents you from starting the lathe with the chuck-key in! Made with heavy cast iron, it's specifications include a swing over bed of 180mm (7"), max. length of work area 350mm (14")+, hole through spindle or spindle bore of 20mm (3/4")~, a spindle taper of MT3, tailstock taper of MT2, has a 1/2HP (350W) motor with speeds of 100-2800rpm approx. (in high range) and 40-1200rpm (in low range) with LED digital speed indication. Metric thread cutting pitches 0.4mm to 2.0mm in 10 steps (more are possible see below) included or imperial 12 tpi to 52 tpi in 18 steps available with optional TL5005 kit. A tumbler gear lever is provided that allows the lead screw to be reversed for left handed threads (an unusual feature on a small lathe) and a four-position lever-operated toolpost makes for fast and easy tool changes (tip, the quick change toolpost provides a better and safer alternative). Overall length is 750mm (30") and the weight is 44Kg(97lbs) and 54Kg(119lbs) in box with all accessories. Supplied with 80mm 3 jaw self-centring chuck (plus external jaws), 26 page instruction manual (including chapters on 'simple turning', 'simple turning with power feed', 'bevel cutting' and 'screw cutting'), metal cuttings and coolant tray, heavy-duty rubber feet, 6 piece metric thread cutting gear kit, dead tailstock centre, allen keys and spanners. Plus zero-resettable hand wheels with 0.025mm divisions on the cross and horizontal slides. The accessories listed here can also be used with the C2 lathe (model 200 or 300) or AL-30. Accessories for the C4, C6 or AL-60 lathes are also available.

The C3 lathe can cut metals, including; carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminium, brass, copper, bronze, silver and gold plus non-metals as wood, carbon fibre and hard plastics. With the accessories available it should be able to perform any task required within the dimensional limits of the machine! NOTE, a few businesses have now purchased this lathe for use as a winding or polishing machine!

Customer feedback: 'I am pretty happy with the C3 lathe - it does everything I wanted!' Rod, Australia. 'I am pleased with the 3-jaw chuck; it is accurate to less than 0.001" runout...' Danny, Australia. 'I purchased from you a C3 mini lathe a year or so ago - still going well. Along with the lathe and several other things, I bought a 5 Watt Luxeon LED torch - it's fantastic. I now need to buy another for my son's birthday.' David P. Australia.

NOTE: We provide a new easy-to-read 30 page manual with all C3 lathes along with additional safety and other important instructions!

All allen keys and spanners necessary for adjustment of the lathes are included, together with a chuck key, oil cup, external jaws (for 3 jaw chuck) and a spare fuse. 3. It is recommended that for rough cutting, you do not exceed 0.25mm or 0.01" depth of cut (10 divisions). 4. The lathe slides use dovetail construction with gib (miter wedge) adjustment for maximum rigidity and precision.

Lathe tips and applications: 1. For a thorough review of the C3 lathe (warts and all) go to the UK website click here. The www.mini-lathe.com website also provides reviews and explains all the terminology and provides on-line help with your new lathe! Also explains how to convert the C3 to a CNC lathe! 2. Because the lathe cutting tools are tungsten-carbide tipped, you will need to use a good quality grinding wheel to sharpen them. e.g. try a diamond-power coated knife sharpener. Click here for more information. 3. Another very useful website is http://www.mini-lathe.org.uk this site explains step-by-step how to do common turning operations, discusses problems and shows a home-made rotary table. 4. Click here to learn more about lathes and see video instructions on using an industrial sized lathe! 5. You could make your own miniature internal combustion engine on these lathes. Click here for more information. Also check out Model Engine News. Another very useful website with some projects for you to try is www.littlemachineshop.com. Shows you how to make some accessories such as: Carriage stop, Tailstock adjuster, Knurling tool, Slitting saw arbor, Screwless vise and Oscillating Steam Engine! 6. For more information about metalworking equipment and engineering and to see a chess set made on a lathe - click here. 7. For an Australian website showing a CNC controlled milling machine, a steam engine project, a taper attachment for a lathe and how a bandsaw is a must - click here. 8. Many more thread pitches (imperial and metric) may be machined on the C3 lathe than is shown in the manual (thanks John S. for this tip) - click here. Note, the stop/start method may need to be used rather than using a thread dial indicator with some pitches! 9. To be continued ...

TL-4000 micro metal lathe C1 - click for optional accessories

In keeping with modern design, this C1 (6x10 or 10x6) micro lathe (TL-4000) has a metal cuttings/shavings/coolant tray inbuilt. It includes the same safety features as the C3 above. The cross slide has an industrial-style bolt-down tool holder with calibrated feed, all in heavy cast iron. The tailstock has a MT-1 standard Morse taper and is also made in cast iron. The Morse shank can be adjusted as well. Included with the lathe is a Jacobs type chuck (3 jaw self centring as shown). The leadscrew is mounted under the lathe bed (away from potential harm) with an automatic feed mechanism and is capable of cutting metric threads from 0.5 - 1.25mm thread pitch or imperial threads 16 - 24 TPI (the gear change kit is optional). The toolpost allows two tools to be held which can be rotated for quick changing. One tool holder has a rocker, allowing the height of the tool to be adjusted without using shims. If you occasionally need to machine small metal parts, you will be delighted with this product. To see the optional accessories for this lathe - click here.

Customer feedback: 'Hi, I purchased the C1 lathe back in January 2004 and it's given good service and has continued to work well. I'd now like to buy the vertical slider for it.' T. Cahill, Australia.
