MuVo2000 - Creative V100 2GB MP3/WMA Player (over 1000 songs) including voice recorder and lyrics display (karaoke)...ideal for music-on-hold!

MuVo2000 (shown above)
The Creative MuVo TX is a tiny USB 2.0 flash memory drive (UFD) or key which doubles as an MP3, WMA, WAV player and it incorporates a voice recorder or dictaphone as well as lyrics display or karaoke function. It has 2GB (2000MB) of storage capacity, which provides 100 hours of voice recording or over 50 hours of MP3 music at 56kbps. That's over 1000 tracks or around 80 standard CDs. Because there are no moving parts, there is nothing mechanical to wear out and there is no chance of music skipping. It requires no software for Linux, Mac OS (version 9 and above) or Windows (a driver for Win 98/SE is provided) to transfer data or music files. This means you can just plug into anyone's computer and upload or download files accordingly! It uses a single AAA alkaline battery, which will give you up to 24 hours of operation (the box says 18 hours but our tests show 24 hours using a Varta alkaline battery and 16 hours using a Sanyo eneloop or Varta Ready2Use NiMH battery). Supplied with Dynamic Bass Response earphones, battery and 12 months replacement warranty. And, unlike many MP3 players that need a cable, you can plug this player directly into the USB port on your computer or other device (e.g. HiFi or car stereo). This unit is ideal for PABX telephone systems for music-on-hold when combined with the MuVoPS power supply! BONUS software is provided that converts your CDs to MP3/WMA music files and between formats and bit rates - e.g. WMA to MP3 or 128bps to Variable BitRate (VBR) etc. A lyrics editor allows you to add lyrics to your songs (from TXT files or simply type them in). This allows you to sing-a-long with the song, karaoke style. You can also add words to recordings such as lectures or language tracks. Imagine being able to re-enforce the spoke word with the written word whilst your on-the-go! A great unit whether you walk, jog, ride a bike, exercise, travel or just love music wherever you go. Note, colour varies depending on the model.

The digital voice recorder has a sensitive microphone that would allow you to record meetings or lectures - or just use it to record reminders. A backlit LCD display shows the file name, title, artist and lyrics (if included in the file) as well as the time elapsed plus volume level and menu items (graphic equaliser, delete file, voice recording etc.) when selected. The controls allow skipping to the next or previous track as well as fast forwarding or rewinding within a track or voice recording. The unit also includes a 'key lock' feature!

Other uses: Many people, especially students, need to be able to transfer files between computers, so why not buy a memory key that doubles as an MP3 player? i.e. kill two birds with one stone! The kids can listen to music to and from school and use it to transfer files from their home PC to the school's computers. Or maybe between home and work? You can just download music from the net or convert your music CDs to MP3 or WMA, use Microsoft Media Player, Realplayer or Roxio Easy CD Creator etc. Note, Microsoft MovieMaker also allows you to edit tracks. e.g. start and stop the track at any point! Besides music CDs you can also use the computer to convert records, tapes and voice recordings. Use Microsoft Movie Maker to create WMA files from the PC microphone or line input (i.e. input from a tape deck, DVD player, record turntable or other source). With a suitable cable (which we can supply) you can take your MP3 player to a friend's party and plug straight into their HiFi or TV to play your special selection of music. Or, if you use a computer like I do at parties, plug it straight into the USB socket and start playing! You could use the repeat function on these MP3 players to play an affirmation or other information (e.g. foreign language lesson) whilst sleeping or meditating. Many companies have now purchased the MuVo and MuVoPS power supply to feed music and advertising into their PABX telephone system for music-on-hold. Why have a radio station with other people's advertisements or music that you don't like being fed to your customers? Or why use an expensive CD player and CD which wear out quickly if running 24/7 - besides it only plays 20 tracks! Get the MuVo and place up to 1000 songs on it with your own advertising and Bob's your uncle! Note, in Australia you are now required to pay a yearly license fee if feeding a radio station into your PABX system. Use this MP3 player to feed your own recorded message or public domain music to your PABX and pay no license fee. Further note, it is your responsibility to ensure that any equipment attached to a telephone system complies with all legal requirements (contact your PABX supplier). e.g. a Line Isolation Unit (LIU) may be required!

MuVo - inserting the USB unit into the battery compartment

Further information: 1. The units plug into a USB port where they act as a removable storage device (UFD). Plug'n play means that it automatically connects to your PC and provides you with various options, such as; play music files or display files etc. Please make sure you have the latest USB driver installed. 2. It has been our experience that the MP3 (56Kbps) format provides better sound reproduction than WMA. With a recording of Vivaldi's Spring - Allegro the WMA playback had a few crackles and pops in it. With the MP3 playback it was fine. Besides MP3 provides smaller files! 3. It played all MP3 files we tried including those encoded with Variable BitRate (VBR). MP3 files with lyrics or pictures imbedded will not play - remove these from the file (this makes them smaller anyway). All WMA files also played including those with DRM (Digital Rights Management). 4. The earphones are marked L and R for left and right side. Both units uses a standard 3.5mm stereo headphone socket, so other headphones can be used. Indeed, if you find the supplied earpieces uncomfortable, you can always swap them for something else. Why not also try a double adapter so you can share your music with others? 5. It uses flash memory that retains the music and data files even without the battery! 6. We recommend that you carry a spare battery (one or more fits easily into your coin pocket on your jeans) to make sure that you always have music wherever you go! 7. Converting your CD collection to MP3 is best done using 'Creative MediaSource Organiser'. You can also use this to convert back to a CD. Use 'Windows Movie Maker' to edit audio files (e.g. voice recordings) or to connect together (concatenate) recordings into one file. Also use 'Windows Movie Maker' to convert external sources (tapes, records) through 'line-in' to WMA. And use the 'Creative Audio Converter' to convert between audio file formats. 8. The colour and design may vary to that shown. 9. We have sold 100's of units made by Creative Technology Ltd in five years and have only had two units returned faulty - these were immediately replaced with new ones. Don't forget, because these MP3 players are sold for music-on-hold system applications, they are often operating 24/7.

Even more uses: One customer used the MuVo to generate sounds that are initiated by a small microcontroller (such as our ABC unit - click here) By opening the MuVo (easy to do) you can hook into the push buttons and control the sounds or music played on the MuVo. Use this to provide sounds for a robot or animation. Use it to provide a description of a tourist attraction in many different languages. Use it to initiate advertising when a person walks past etc. etc. NOTE: You don't even need to open the unit because you can just apply external power (5 volts) to the unit and it will start playing immediately (music or voice recording).
