This mini digital camera is low cost and so small that you can afford to have one with you at all times! Giving you the opportunity to capture special moments or surprising situations with ease. A PC with USB port is required. The camera comes with installation software and USB cable providing the ability to upload pictures to your PC and also be used as a web or net camera (webcam) to conduct image transmission or hold video conferencing with the use of Microsoft Netmeeting or MSN Messenger. They can also be used to make movies on your PC, using Windows Movie Maker or other programs provided. When taking photos, a beep is heard indicating success or failure of the shot and a longer beeping sound is heard when no more shots can be taken. Great for the outdoors, travelling and people on the go! Kids love it also! It has 12 months warranty and a battery is included. Note, the battery is not required when connected to your USB port.

This camera (model 2107 - EOTSQAAJ) is one of the smallest you'll see, measuring only 55 x 40 x 15mm (2.2 x 1.6 x 0.6"). The Precision mini digital camera package includes a pouch, a keyring, a USB cable, one AAA battery and CD-ROM. It has a maximum interpolated resolution of 300K Pixels (640x480 pixels), with an internal SDRAM memory of 2MB allowing storage of up to 72 photos (18 in high resolution). A small 2 character LCD display indicates the mode of operation - 'St' Self timer auto shoot (i.e. after 10 second delay), 'd8' video mode (up to 15 second video shoot), 'CS' Capture 3 pictures continuously, 'Lo' Low resolution (QCIF), 'HI' High resolution (CIF), 'CA' Clear all photos, 'CL' Clear last photo and, of course, the number of shots remaining. Also allows 'Ld' image normal mode or 'Hd' compression mode and '50' or '60' Hertz (cps) selection for taking photos under electric lights. Included with this camera is some great software from Arcsoft called 'Photo Impression' and 'Video Impression'. Arcsoft's 'Photo Impression' allows you to manipulate your pictures (including those taken by other cameras or downloaded over the net) in a multitude of ways including adding borders, making greeting cards and calendars and adding faces to some great images provided. Even provides a virtual photo-album on your computer! It's worth buying this camera just for the software alone!

Other uses: How about house hunting or car hunting? You could take a picture just to remind you of the house/car that you inspected. If you carry it around with you (or keep it in the glovebox), what about taking photos if you have a car accident (provided that there is sufficient light). Kids can afford to take this camera on school outings, field trips and camps. Better to lose this than an expensive digital camera! Imagine? You see an item that would be perfect in the home, just take a photo to show the wife or husband before you decide to buy! How many times have you said "Oh, I wish I had a camera" ... now there is no excuse! Don't forget, if you're looking for a webcam to use on the internet, why not buy one of these? Operational tips: 1. The QC3190 camera has a fixed focus lens. It's focus range is 20cm to infinity. The best shooting distance is 1-2 metres from the subject. 2. The camera has a long exposer time and therefore needs to be held steady for a good photograph. It is suggested that a flat surface and the self-timer mode be used for best results in low-light conditions. 3. Remember, with a digital camera, it's better to take a wider shot so as not to cut off people's head etc. because you can always crop the picture later on the computer (see the koala picture above). 4. Another big advantage of the digital camera is if the shot doesn't come out as expected (someone moves or someone walks in front of you) you can always clear the last shot (CL) and try again. 5. Don't forget, the same techniques you used with a conventional camera still apply to the digital camera. e.g. composing the picture, shadows and position of the sun. It's just that with a digital camera you can use software to manipulate the image later. i.e change the brightness, contrast or add special effects etc. The 'PhotoImpression' software is great for this and it comes FREE with the QC3190 camera! 6. As the lens is separate from the viewer, remember to keep your fingers away from the lens when taking shots! 7. When the battery power is low the display will flash. When the display switches off, no more photos can be taken but the batteries should still be able to keep the pictures that you have taken for a few days. In sleep mode, new batteries should last more than 2 weeks. 8. Once you have the pictures on the computer you can, add them to documents (cards, calendars, projects...), make slide presentations out of them (e.g. Microsoft Project), send them to friends over the internet, print them out and send them for printing as a normal photograph. 9. Finally, you can save them to CD-ROM or DVD for storage and slide presentations on other computers or DVD players (some DVD players will display pictures). This is a great way to share your pictures with family and friends!

Postscript: Don't be fooled by a photo developing industry that's starting to hurt by digital cameras and people printing at home. They will try to suggest that 'computers crash and data can be lost so if you don't print those images you'll lose your valuable memories'. I suggest you save your pictures on CD-ROM or DVD (a whole life-time of memories can fit on one DVD). Store your CD-ROM or DVD in a fire-proof safe and/or leave a copy with a trusted friend or relative. If your house burns down you've still got all other happy memories! By-the-way you don't need to spend heaps of money on a colour printer. Even a low-cost printer (less than $100) can produce quite decent results...and it doesn't have to cost the earth to run. I re-fill my ink-jet cartridge and it costs me only a few cents per print.
