VALE
- BRIAN SLATTER
On
Saturday, 16 December 2006, Brian Slatter passed away. Brian was
the inaugural Chairman of the EFA NT Branch from 1984 till 1989
and was instrumental in the fight to gain the branch. He was also
for many years a strong supporter of the Darwin Showjumping Club
and the Fannie Bay Equestrian Club.

Sponsorship:
The
EFA NT Branch sponsored a number of events including the Royal
Darwin Show (3 hack classes, 2 Rider classes and 2 dressage classes)
and prize money to the winners of the NT Dressage Championships
and qualifying classes at the NT Show Horse & Riding Championships.
Sport
& Recreation Funding:
Unfortunately
during this period the branch was not successful in grant bidding.
The Darwin Dressage Club also applied under Sport Facility funding
for upgrades to the grounds at Freds Pass Reserve, however this
application was also not successful. During this period the Constituent
clubs applied for assistance under the 'Grass Roots' program for
a variety of topics. The Darwin Showjumping club was successful
in their grant applicant to conduct a 'Come & Try' day.
EFA
Support:
Due
to the need for our existing dressage judges to attend larger
competitions and officiate at events where higher tests are offered
and have a larger entry pool in order to upgrade, an offer was
provided to a D level judges, seeking expressions of interest
from interested parties, to provide funding toward interstate
travel to upgrade. Hilary Tims received assistance in upgrading
to C level.
The
EFA also provided support to clubs and members due to the lack
of Sports funding. Clubs were asked to submit a wish list of programs
they would be conducting throughout the year, providing the individual
was a current EFA member. A number of requests were received across
disciplines. At the end of this period, two clinics had received
support for both the organising club and the participating EFA
member. Further claims are expected in the next year.
National
Championships:
Only
the Show Horse team travelled away during this period. Whilst
unfortunately there were no winners from this championships, there
were certainly some hopes in the show hunter section.
Future
of the Branch:
This
issue had raised its head previously, which Lesley had addressed
for the time being. However the National Board is again on knocking
our door step, the real issues still unknown. If the branch is
to remain, that is the members choice, there are however implications
to any merger.
Once
further information is received, all members will be given the
opportunity to provide comment, arguments for and against either
individually or at a future meeting.
